Did You Feel The Quake?

A magnitude-5.8 earthquake centered near Chino Hills shook buildings across the Southland Tuesday, but there were no immediate reports of any injuries or damage.

The quake struck at 11:42 a.m. and was centered two miles southwest of Chino Hills and five miles southeast of Diamond Bar.

The quake caused a brief but pronounced earth tremor in San Diego County. No problems were immediately reported, however, according to law enforcement and emergency services officials.

The 13-story City Hall building in downtown San Diego “swayed” for about 15 or 20 seconds and hanging light fixtures in the 13th story press room rocked back and forth.

Did you feel it? Is this your first quake? Tell us your thoughts and experoiences below..

  4. Gale Shellenberger says:

I live in Murrieta and felt the quake. At first I thought it was a large truck going by the front of my home, but this bang was followed by about 5 secondsof shaking which is when I knew it was an earthquake. As far as I know, there has been no damage in Murrieta.

It was a nice rolling one. I stuck my arms out like I was riding a wave. Whoo Hoo

Look at all the hype. The news stations are searching for news about this…LOL

Earthquakes are fun when they are rolling like the one this morning. I wish I was closer to the epicenter so I could enjoy the aftershocks. Mother earth is talking to us. She is telling us we are a tiny tiny tiny tiny little part of HER world.

We all felt it on the 6th floor in our lunch room across the street from the Midway Museum. We didn’t know if we should of stood in the doorway or grabbed our food and got under the table to eat…it really wasn’t that bad although it was longer than what we normally feel being on the 6th floor…we all guessed what what level it was…I said 5.2 someone else said 5.8 which is what we heard and then they down graded it to a 5.4…How do you downgrade an Earthquake if that is what was measured? Interesting.

I work in El Cajon, I was sitting at my desk talking with a client in my office.
I stopped for a moment - “It an earthquake!” I said to her.
The client standing in front of me- said she felt nothing.
She asked me, “what was I drinking?”
The feeling was like a gentle wave under my feet.
I called my 14 year old son at home (in Lakeside).
He said everything shook very hard.
He thought the house would fall apart.
Our home is still in one piece, thank goodness.

  9. Bonnie Vent says:

I have been watching the coverage from LA. They are taking the opportunity to warn the public once again to be prepared. We should be doing the same thing here in San Diego.

Our current emergency services cannot handle a major event. They brought up the issue of lack of communication between government agencies and even within the same agencies. We should be looking to make sure there is a comprehensive plan here in San Diego.

I live in Otay Ranch and I did feel the quake. Very minor compared to my friend who lives in Hollywood.

    Thx,
    Bonnie Vent

I live in Oceanside at Camp Pendleton. I was sitting on the couch when i felt my whole house move. At first i thought it was the sound of the marines blowing stuff up and it usually shakes the walls of my house if it’s close enough. But I never heard anything and then the house moved again. It was all within just a few seconds. This is my first earthquake so it rattled me a little especially since my son was upstairs asleep in his crib.

First quake ever (just moved here, former Balti-moron). Not much different than a truck or train passing nearby (small rumble), wouldn’t have noticed except people in the office (Rancho Bernardo) spoke up. House in Hidden Meadows (northern Escondido) never even felt it, according to wife.

  21. Pam says:

I didn’t feel the earthquake, however I was raised in Los Angeles and Orange County where earthquakes seem to happen every other day and it became a part of everyday life. So now I just ignore them.

  33. Frank says:

I felt the earthquake in downtown Chula Vista. I live in an apartment on the second story of a two-story building. Downstairs are three businesses. The building is made of concrete blocks. I was seated at my desk reading something on the computer when it hit. I felt the initial shaking as an up-and-down, bouncing sensation. Then a few seconds later I actually felt my chair and desk move back and forth a couple times in two rather large sideways jolts. This was the biggest quake I\’ve felt in San Diego in the last ten years or so.

  34. Patti Campbell says:

At the time my daughter and I was leaving MiraMar on the 15 North and I saw a couple of cars swaying back and forth and I thought nothing of it, but being a typical california driver. When we arrived home we saw the news that we had an earthquake. No I didn’t feel it at all.

  35. Simi says:

I was waiting in line at the McDonald’s drive-thru in the San Diego Clairmont area when it hit. My car began to shake and sway a little, then I saw the McDonald’s stand-up signs shaking. I just thought it was the wind, but when I got back in the office and checked the news, sure enough it was an earthquake

  36. Kathy Baker says:

I’m in La Mesa and, yes, I felt it. Just as I at down at my computer, the desk shook a tiny bit and I thought, hmmmm, maybe we just had an earthquake. I guessed right.

  37. Mary Key says:

Yes I felt it - I was still lying in my bed where I live a 2 two story town home in Vista - maybe a few short seconds of vibration followed by a car alarm - but I was pleased to read confirmation since telecast probably if at all won’t appear till this evening.

  38. chris says:

i had just gotten out of bed and was opening a shade in the office when the window rattled a little. sometimes it will do that when a truck goes by or something, but then the house cracked like the whole thing was settling at the same time. i didn’t see anything swinging (chandelier), but one of my cats was freaking out a little. i live out in el cajon/lakeside, so that’s probably why i didn’t feel it move much.
